A MARSH WARBLER trapped & ringed and our first COMMON REDSTARTS of the autumn...

The early Sunday morning ringing session at Marsworth Reservoir turned up this surprise - a French ringed MARSH WARBLER!! (per Katherine Burkett)

Sunday also saw a SANDWICH TERN and CURLEW through Wilstone (Ian Williams) while Dave Bilcock located a juvenile COMMON REDSTART on Ivinghoe Hills, the first there of the autumn.

Steve Rodwell had seen the first autumn COMMON REDSTART on Pitstone Hill over 2 weeks ago and during a lengthy search of the area today, I eventually located 3 individuals - all juveniles with 2 together on the fenceline close to the S bend and another in thick scrub at the far end of Inkombe Hole

Thus far, 6 GREAT CRESTED GREBES have fledged on Marsworth Reservoir, but today this Tringford pair were only just beginning.....

Growing up fast - the 2 cygnets on Tringford - our only young MUTE SWANS of this summer

MANDARIN DUCK on Marsworth

Lots of butterflies on the wing including the BROWN ARGUS, SMALL SKIPPER and SPECKLED WOOD above
