Ivinghoe WHEATEARS and Water End WATER PIPIT

Popped in at Great Gaddesden/Water End before heading to the Beacon for the Wheatears this morning.

The WATER PIPIT was sitting happily on the edge of the stream just down from the small pool/spring (Piper's hill) end. Its plumage is developing nicely - showing signs of the pink wash to the breast feathers (see attached image). Whilst there, I also saw the pair of Yellowhammer together plus one other male; male Kestrel; Buzzard; numerous Reed Buntings. On the small fishing pool, at least one Coot and one Moorhen are on nests. Also, just one pair of Gadwall, 3 Mallards plus the usual Moorhens and Coots.

Bumped into Mike Collard on Ivinghoe Beacon and we sat in the sunshine and enjoyed the Wheatears together. I think Mike counted 6 at least. A good variety of plumages amongst them - some very strong/vibrant, others more subdued but equally beautiful. Male and female shots attached.
